We're bringing nature-friendly Afro Caribbean hair and skin care products to Northern Ireland.
Hello, we're Chakai , the ethnic nature-friendly Afro Caribbean hair and body care company. We make sustainable hair and skincare products from ingredients that are all organic, cruelty-free, sustainable and 100% natural.
Our products have a range of butters as the main ingredient and we are proud to say that all of our butters are sourced exclusively from West Africa.

My skin and hair have been two of my most self-conscious parts of my person. My hair because I just have never found where I belong and with which style.
My skin owing to numerous chops I have from my days of climbing trees in Jamaica when I was a tomboy of sorts.
Today I have found the magic and all I have to do now is ensure I am hydrated and moisturised.
I have been coming to coming to Ireland for some time now, in fact, I was a guest speaker at an event where Allan Shatter, former Justice Minister, and Natty Wailer from Bob Marley & The Wailers were also in attendance. Below are some of the pictures they took at that event. I have recently been spending more time in Northern Ireland and realised that finding Afro Caribbean hair and skincare is challenging. Many people of the diaspora here have to either shop online or pick up products that are unique to our skin and hair type on the mainland. Chakai wants to bridge that gap and offer a real option!

As a result, I embarked on this journey to create a set of products to offer the ethnic minority community of Northern Ireland for the first phase of our product offering.
We are launching this campaign to celebrate the release of our latest products, an exciting range of hair moisturisers made from organic butter only sourced from West Africa all hand harvest and prepared.
Support us by making a pledge and be the first to try our brand new moisturisers!

We have taken the African Butters and used them as the core ingredient for our new moisture delight range. These naturally harvested butters have a number of skin/hair benefits. Packed with fatty acids, they nourish the hair, promote growth and hydration.
They’re also praised for their desperately needed mineral deposits such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, calcium, iron and zinc, with one aim giving your hair moisture, health, and vitality.
The funds raised by your pledges will be used to turn our prototype butters into a physical product, ready for a full launch in a few months' time!
**And the best part is our products are all organic, cruelty-free, sustainable and 100% natural.

Here is some feedback from one user for the Mango Velvet Butter, from Maryam in the Republic of Ireland.

Afro Caribean hair and skin need heaps of moisture and Chakai is mad about moisture. We are keen on giving the community of Northern Ireland a real CHOICE that is handmade and on their doorsteps.
5% of all donations will go towards conducting a self-esteem workshop for women with The Mango Girl community interest company (CIC).
From our business plan to our graphic design, we have been working with local talent in Northern Ireland.

Hey, I am Dr. Ava Eagle Brown a change agent and transformational speaker. I grew up in a very poor part of Jamaica, where I had to overcome incest, poverty, homelessness and sexual violence which swiftly saw me running for refuge in the United Kingdom. I needed to save my sanity not just for me but my baby girl Chardonae Elizabeth who witnessed me being raped at gunpoint at three years old. I have had a rough journey in many areas of my life and my hair journey has been one a hell of a roller coaster. This has been documented in my book #TheMangoGirl which is one of the rewards on this project.

To get these products in a store near you, we need your support to help us create our own brand. Chakai Ethnic Hair requires £5,000 that will go towards the purchase of high quality of ingredients, packaging and branding. By supporting Chakai – Mad about Moisture you not only get an opportunity to contribute but also to be a distributor once we're fully launched.
