New equipment and financial support to aid our athletes In their return to training.

by Cambridge Dive Team in Cambridge, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

With any extra money raised we will put this into extra facility time, this will allow our athletes more exposure to the new equipment and more time to develop and improve.

Support Cambridge Diving Development Centre (CDDC) by providing financial support / a donation towards new equipment and helping their athletes return to training.

Who are we?

The Cambridge Diving Development Centre is a thriving diving club based in the east region, catering for all those who want to give springboard and high-board diving a go in Cambridge. At our club we have two distinct branches; our recreational program, known as Learn to Dive (LTD), and our competitive program known as the Cambridge Dive Team (CDT). Together, these programs provide lessons to over 300 children and adults, made possible by our dedicated coaches, making sure all sessions are fun and supporting the development of all our members. The club has been running in a professional format since 2004 and since then we have had success at different levels all the way from novice to international. Our Club President, Sharyn Bord, was recently awarded a BEM in the Queens honours list 2020 for over 50 years service to diving in Cambridge - a very well-deserved award.

Community outreach program

Before lockdown we were offering free diving lessons to try and encourage others into the sport. The club has always had an ethos to increase the number of people taking part in diving whilst also helping the local community get fit and stay active. We believe that diving as a sport can not only help increase fitness levels, but also help with mental well-being and community feel. Due to the pandemic we have had to suspend our outreach program and liaisons with other local sports clubs. In normal years the club visits local schools to introduce them to the sport of diving, undertaking some strength and flexibility testing and invites anyone interested down to the pool to have a go in the water. We also visit gymnastics clubs in and around Cambridgeshire, where we offer free sessions for them to come and have a go at diving with our professional coaches. CDDC hope to resume all this outreach work as soon as schools and club’s feel it is safe for us to do so and can’t wait to get more people involved with the club!

What our target is for?

We have set a target of £4000 which will provide new essential equipment to help all members of our club return to training in a better setting. Some of the funds raised will go towards a portable video replay system, allowing us to show athletes their dives so they can better understand what we are looking for and make improvements faster. We are looking to purchase one for our pool venue and one for our dry land venue, and will also be able to be used for promotion when not in use by us. In addition, we would like to purchase new mats and somersaulting blocks to assist our dry-side activities.

What will we do to for this target?

During the Covid shutdowns, athletes would have normally attended many competitions; during which they would have done numerous walks along the diving boards and up and down the diving tower stairs. As part of this crowdfunding, we are asking them to replicate the many metres covered on these ‘board walks’ by walking, cycling or running an equivalent distance. Our lead coaches have calculated the total distance that would have been covered by the divers, equating to 6,900,096 metres – roughly 4287 miles! We’ve given each diver a daily goal to try and hit (or exceed!) and would be so grateful if you could show your support through sponsoring or making a donation to our athlete’s efforts.

Please support us to allow our athletes the best return to training possible and have a bright future in the sport.
