We want to restore the 'garden for blind' back into a sensory garden to compliment the Mansion restoration and to enable community sessions
We are a group of local volunteers who are working closely with Salford City Council to restore the mansion and surrounding areas and to bring the Mansion back into community use.
The Sensory Garden is located next to the Mansion. It was created in 1963, as a garden for the blind. It was then changed from the original design to incorporate 4 raised flower beds.
Unfortunately the garden has been left unattended for many years until 2019 when the Mansion Association made an agreement with the council and held an event to tidy up the garden.
We now have a horticulture expert volunteer (Pete Simms) who has created a plan to create the Sensory Garden with the four raised beds being linked to the four senses of sight, smell, touch and sound.
We are currently hosting weekly sessions throughout the summer to clear and restore the garden.
Once the sensory garden has been restored we can host self-guided sensory session as well as group sessions for local schools, groups and the community.
