We've been overwhelmed by the level of interest and support for the Isle of Barra Whisky Distillery. Thank you very much. Since the launch of our campaign, news of the project has travelled the globe. There has been interest from tens of thousands of visitors to the website, crowdfunder and social channels. There's also been a great deal of interest from newspapers and whisky publications that we're delighted with.
However, we've been advised that with a little thing called Brexit 4 weeks away, we've probably picked the worst time possible to ask investors (particularly overseas investors) to get involved in a whisky start-up. Anecdotal feedback from some Investors (not all) confirms that this is the case and it does play a role in decision making. These things are always easy to spot with hindsight!
With that in mind, we've decided to put the crowdfunder on hold for short period and re-launch it after the immediate Brexit uncertainty has passed with a "Phase 2" crowdfunding. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to the early investors but we think it's best for the project in the long run. All monies invested so far are safe and will be returned with the option to get involved shortly at "Phase 2". In the meantime we'll continue with work on the project and keep you posted with developments via social media and the website. The only thing that changes is that we're moving the crowdfunding window until after Brexit. Hope this all makes sense.

Barra Distillery was founded as a Community Benefit Society to build and operate a community-owned Scotch whisky distillery and visitor centre on the beautiful Isle of Barra.
Our business model is socially and environmentally conscious and our profits will be distributed back into the community.
Progress to Date
A suitable site has been identified and acquired at Upper Borve, a village on the West Coast of Barra. The Society has ownership of the land and the water supply (in the form of a loch, dam and water pipes).
Phase one of the Society’s renewable energy initiative has been completed, consisting of four wind turbines, with plans for a second hydro phase in the future. The proposed building has been designed to re-use heat from the stills to heat the visitor centre and our goal is to become 100% renewable in the future.
Forsyths will provide the distillery system which will allow production of 26,220 bulk litres of whisky per year. All of our ingredients will be sourced from the Islands and the whisky will not be vatted, but bottled directly from each individual cask at cask strength to ensure a truly unique artisan product.
Scotch whisky is a long term, but rewarding investment. This Share Offer is an opportunity to be part of a unique distillery business and a community.
In return for your investment, you will be the part owner of a Scotch whisky distillery. In the medium term, the Society intends to pay interest on members’ shares of 4% once sufficient profits and cash is being generated. In the short term, the rewards have been designed for people who love craft distilled whisky.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a quality distillery project in an evocative island location with unique characteristics for Scotch whisky production.
