We are aiming to raise £10,000 towards the Long Bridge Wing at the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon

Help build the Long Bridge Wing.

We have a great Museum in Barnstaple and  it is one of the top 25 visitor attractions in the South West!  It is the place to discover the wildife, history and culture of North Devon.  It is packed with fascinating exhibits  and  there is a regular programme of temporary displays, events and children's activities.  The collections have grown so much over the last 30 years that we have some important objects in outside storage and no room to display them.

The Long Bridge Wing will provide a brand new Social History Gallery telling the stories of life in North Devon.  We will bring objects out of the store and work with our volunteers and local community to select and conserve the best items for display. Themes will include High Days and Holidays, Hatched, Matched and Dispatched and House and Home, as well as a celebration of Barnstaple Fair and our great manufacturers Shapland and Petter and Brannam Pottery.  An activities programme will bring the exhibits to life for children and adults.

The ambitious plans to build this new wing are fast  gaining momentum.  The building  plans have been approved and  our major funders have pledged  over £1.5 million.  

Crowdfunder is your opportunity to support and help us raise £10,000  to help fill the funding gap.  There are  lots of great rewards in return for your donation but the biggest reward of all is that by 2019 you will be able to visit the Museum with its brand new wing and all free of charge .

Barnstaple Museum is a bustling venue with permanent and temporary exhibitions, a tourist information centre, cafe and visitor facilities.  However  there are masses of artefacts in temporary storage,  an archaeology store that is bursting at the seams and a cafe with no running water.  There is no education room and just one toilet for staff and public.  An upgrade is desperately needed and this project will provide it.  The extension is carefully designed to fit in with the local architecture and will provide a new gallery, education room, cafe and shop.  A better flow  around the Museum means that we can relocate and upgrade the Undersea World exhibit and provide better toilets too.
