Banbury Community Fridge, based in the carpark of Banbury Madni Masjid, opened its doors to the public in 2018 and is run by a fantastic group of hardworking volunteers. The fridge is the first of its kind to open in Banbury and the facility provides the community with access to food supplies that would otherwise go to waste. Residents, primarily those in need but not exclusively, can collect provisions such as pastries, bread, fruit, spices and vegetables nearing their sell by date for free.
The community fridge has been widely used and has received countless positive responses from members of the community and beyond. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this facility has been incredibly important to the people of Banbury and surrounding villages. We delivered in excess of 3500 food packs for people in self-isolation, and vulnerable individuals over the age of 65. In recognition of the work carried out by our volunteers during this unprecedented time, we were nominated for the "Unsung Hero Award".
This crowdfunder is to raise money to improve the security of Banbury Community Fridge and to prevent vandalism and mistreatment of this valuable community facility. In order to do this, we hope to raise enough funds to install security cameras and roller shutter doors, which will enable us to continue our service.
