About the project
The pavilion within Stanhope Park, Holsworthy, has seen better days and with the ongoing regeneration of the Park the time has come to rejuvenate and enhance the pavilion to suit the needs of the park users and wider community.
The refurbished facility, which will use the original Victorian stone building as it's centrepiece, will include:
a community hall
public toilets, including mens, ladies, disabled and baby changing
two 20m2 sports changing rooms with showers
2 official's changing rooms with contained shower and toilet facilities
Large equipment store for goals, balls, stumps, bats, raquets, training aids and other fun stuff!
The building will be the home for Holsworthy Youth Football and Cricket Clubs, who both currently play their respective sports within the park without adequate facilities. The pavilion will also be made available for use by a wide range of other groups such as Holsworthy Peloton, Holsworthy Football Club and Holsworthy Walk and Talk Group amongst others.
The project will allow these clubs and groups to continue their good work and most importantly grow. Project priority and focus will be given to the youth elements of the user groups and will look to tackle identified deficiencies in sports and active lifestyle opportunities in the town such as those for girls and women's team sports, the elderly and those recovering from illness.
The vision is to build a community resource that will be the focus for active and healthy lifestyles for all of the people of Holsworthy and provide a social meeting place within the beautiful setting of our park where families can meet to watch or participate in sport, obtain refreshments or just shelter from the weather. The setting will also make it a great venue for children's birthday parties, christenings and family events.
Providing a multi-use facility will encourage cross pollination of individuals between groups, ensure the facility's long term sustainability and bring the community together within a positive and healthy environment.
The plans are part of a wider redevelopment of the park which began with the new play area and, more recently, outdoor gym equipment. A new full sized sport's pitch and parking provision, immediately to the north of the pavilion, is to be handed over to the Council in 2016 and plans are moving forward to establish a multi-use games area on the site of the old tennis court.
The potential to improve and enhance people's lives is great.
How can you help?
Funding for the project will need to come from a variety of sources. This Crowdfunder initiative provides the mechanism for the community to contribute to the project and show local support to the main funders.
The total project cost is likely to be around £275,000.
£104,000 has already been raised through housing developer contributions and funding applications are currently being submitted by the Town Council to the Football Association (FA), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Sport England's Inspired Facilities fund.
The more we can raise through local donations the more chance we will have of success with these funding applications. So please consider being part of something truly amazing for our town and donate what you can. Our rewards system will allow your generosity to be recorded for ever more in the place where it will all happen.
Thank you all. xxx
