New theatre company poorfool, needs your help to take their first professional debut show 'The Fox and The Hound' to the Edinburgh Fringe
Who are we?
Poorfool is a new, emerging theatre company based in the UK. Originating from The University of Exeter in 2015, we focus on producing fun, highly creative, energetic ensemble based pieces of theatre for all ages.
We tell stories...
Taking inspiration from companies such as KneeHigh and Frantic Assembly and directors such as Sally Cookson, we use original music, physicality and a whole load of imagination to tell new and existing stories. From novels to poems we like to put our own foolish twist on a range of famous and lesser known stories, presenting them as relevant and entertaining pieces of theatre for audiences of all ages.
It's all about the ensemble... and being a little foolish...
We use an ensemble of actors and musicians, who we urge to contribute to the devising process. We encourage our actors to play, throwing away their inhibitions and staying open to all possibilities. Theatre cannot be made if you are not willing to be a little silly. Our productions would not succeed without the strong ensembles we work with.
Poorfool’s Plan for the Fringe...
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a festival where lovers of theatre, music and performance can celebrate together. The Fringe offers new companies such as ours a platform to showcase their work, bringing it to the forefront of the industry.
Poorfool are tremendously excited to share our fun and original production with those who appreciate something a little bit different. At poorfool we believe in the power of creativity and how it can take an audience on a journey. We want our audiences to see the innovation of our company and of our talented actors and musicians.
We have secured our venue at Greenside’s Nicholson Square, a fantastic venue dubbed by The Guardian as 'Undoubtedly one of the most charming venues at the Fringe.' We will be performing from the 15th-20th August at 11.25am – an ideal slot for those wanting to see a fun family show for all ages. Our venue has a capacity to seat 40 people – so make sure you are one of those!
Why Poorfool needs you help…
We need your generous donations to help us get our show to Edinburgh in order to showcase what our company believes in – fun, creativity and innovation within theatre.
As a company we have already secured both our venue and accommodation. All your contributions will go directly to the show and the final payments for the venue. The company will pay for their own accommodation, transport and living expenses whilst up in Edinburgh.
Below we you can see where exactly your money is going to go and how we are going to use it.

*Projected ticket sales are a rough estimate based on 40% fill (of 40 seat capacity) at an average price of £9 per ticket, deducting VAT and box office commission
Additionally to this crowdfunder campaign we are also going to run a number of fundraising events – yes we will be selling lots of cake! We will also be applying for various different grants in order to cover some of the costs.
Thank You for Your Support!
Any contribution, however large or small, would be greatly appreciated. In return we have created a series of rewards for supporting our work.
