Women and Children living in our refuges need your help to provide workshops, activities and debt advice

by Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services in Norwich, England, United Kingdom

Our Project

Due to Universal Credits and changes to the benefit system, women fleeing domestic abuse are being left without money and feeling extremely vulnerable. Many will have suffered financial abuse. Your pledge will help us to fund an independent benefits advisor, for one day per month, to support the women that have fled their homes due to domestic abuse and are in financial difficulty. It will help them to access Universal Credit, enabling them to gain control of their finances.

In addition to the financial support and advice, we would like to put on a variety of workshops for women and children using Leeway services to attend in a safe and supportive environment. The money that you pledge will help us to provide therapeutic play activities for the children, enabling them to express themselves safely and interact with other children in the refuge, allowing them to come to terms with their experiences of domestic abuse.

For the women, the money you pledge will go towards workshops to help them to build their self-esteem, confidence through art activities, creative writing and social skills. Having these activities will help our women to start to rebuild their lives and help them to move forward after what will have been a difficult time for them and their children.

About Leeway

Established in 1974, Leeway is an independent charity providing specialist support to women, men, children and young people who are experiencing domestic abuse in Norfolk and Waveney. Leeway supports over 8,000 adults, children and young people every year. We have five refuges across Norfolk for women and children that are experiencing domestic abuse. As well as this, we offer community services for women, a male victim service, children and young people's services, advocacy high risk service, and a telephone advice and support line.

Did you know?

1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

Norfolk Police take an average of 55 domestic abuse related calls for assistance every day.

If we should exceed our target, we will use the funds to provide additional activities throughout the year and towards support services.

We are extremely grateful for your support. Thank you.
