Aim

To Improve South Petherwin School library to inspire the children and become a community asset,

Inspiring the next generation….

The Big Library Project

Who we are:

South Petherwin PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is a charity made up from parents and teachers based at South Petherwin Primary School, our main aim is to organise fun events for the school and to raise money to enhance the learning experience at the school. We are a small village school based in beautiful Cornwall with approximately 100 students aged 4-11. With friendly chickens and vegetable plots on site, a large playing field and plenty of extra curriculum school activities on offer, the school aims to encompass a “whole life” education, developing resilient, confidant and socially thriving children.

Our Project:

Our current library is an unloved room with a jumble of old furniture and tired books. This is not the sort of room that is going to encourage or inspire our children to love books.

As a nation of literary greats including Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and William Blake (to name but a few), its sad that each new generation is becoming more immune and further removed from the pleasure and education gained in books, lost in a world of shiny and fast moving technology. Whilst computers and Ipads and Kindles are obviously the future, it shouldn’t be at the detriment of our rich, historical past, where books were revered and enjoyed by thousands.

We want to provide an inspiring room, that “hugs” each child as they walk in, which encourages them to sit and relax, to be supported, to be immersed in a thousand tales..

Inspiration for our school library.

Our aim:

We want to invest in our children’s future, right from the start. By creating a warm, well-stocked and inviting library, with comfortable reading and learning zones, this will encourage the children to pick up a book, and be transported on incredible journeys and adventures. It will fire their imaginations and help to release and encourage their potential.

“So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message ‘you are not alone’.” – Roald Dahl, Matilda

To achieve this we need to repair the ceiling, repaint the walls, re-carpet the room, buy new shelving, bring in new seating and furniture and re-stock the old, out-dated and tired books.

Why support us?

This crowd funding campaign is an ideal opportunity for you to make a difference to the next generation, and hopefully generations to come. To encourage our youngsters to enjoy books as we did when we were young.

By supporting this scheme, you are actively helping to educate young minds, to be part of a bigger picture, all from the comfort of your own home!

The future:

As part of a small village community we would like to eventually be able to offer the use of the library to a wider audience. We have a high percentage of retired people in this rural parish who are often not able to access a local library. Having a well stocked library with a section for adult readers enables us to become more inclusive and support all generations, across all ages and spectrums.

Thank You.
