We need essential funds to carry on the important work that we do on Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor
We need essential funds to carry on the important work that we do on Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor. Our charity has been let down by third party fundraising company which has recently gone into adminstration, potentially owing the charity thousands of pounds. This has left SWEP in a dire situation in which we desperatley need funds so the charity can continue to operate. Our yard of 30 rescue ponies still need to be cared and our welfare officer still needs to be out on the front line helping ponies in desperate plight out on the harrowing moorland that surrounds us.
Everyday ponies are left for dead on Moorland roads, mainly due to speed and dangerous driving. We attend these call outs to make sure the pony involved suffers as little as possible. Our welfare officer also attends calls to cases of neglect and abdonment amongst other things, this can be private cases and moorland call outs. If we have to seize a pony it will come to our rehabilitation yard where they are handled and get used to proffessionals such as the vet and the farrier. Once they have got to a point where they are confident we will rehome them on a loan basis.
In the last three years we have had a 78% increase in call outs to sick and injured ponies in pain.
2012 - 73 call outs
2013 - 102 call outs
2014 - 130 call outs
Without SWEP, ponies will be left on Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor suffering uneccesarily. With your help we can get through this difficult time for the charity and still work to give these ponies a better future which is only what they deserve.
