Running the London Marathon 2016 for Elijah
This will be the first marathon I have run, I was lucky enough to get a ballot place and have had many charities contact me to run for them. I have thought about it very deeply and if anything is going to get me through the cold, hard, early morning training months and finally the 26.2miles in April, it is to run for something that is very close to my heart. So I decided I am running for Elijah.
Elijah was diagnosed with Myotubular Myopathy which is a rare genetic muscle condition that affects mostly boys from birth. The condition causes profound muscle weakness and most dangerously affects the muscles that control breathing and swallowing and requires round the clock care. Eighty per cent of children die before their first birthday. One per cent make it to ten years old
Amazingly, by the time I am running the marathon, Elijah will be 6 years old! He is such a happy child who is deeply cared for by his wonderful parents Onessa and Jaroume, who would stop at nothing to ensure he is happy and gets the best out of life. Year after year he has wanted to go to Disneyland Paris and so far this has not been a wish that he has fullfilled...maybe my fundraising could help get him there? Or perhaps it will help him get access to a hoist so he can get out and about and explore what our country has to offer?!
I would be grateful if you could donate as much as you can and help me raise as much as possible to help support the amazing little boy.
