New stretch target
Every penny pledged to the campaign to re-elect Nicola Sturgeon will be used for campaigning. If we reach our stretch target of £10,000 it will mean that we don't have to focus so much on fundraising but can spend all our time contacting voters.
Hi! I'm Mhairi Hunter and I'm the campaign manager for Nicola Sturgeon, who is standing for re-election as the MSP for Glasgow Southside in the Scottish Parliament election on May 5th.
Glasgow Southside takes in East Govan, Ibrox, Cessnock, Kinning Park, Tradeston, Kingston, Dumbreck, Pollokshields, Crossmyloof, Strathbungo, west Shawlands, Queen's Park, Crosshill, Govanhill, Laurieston, Gorbals, Oatlands & Toryglen. There are over 53,000 voters living in 31,000 households.
Nicola was elected MSP for Glasgow Southside in 2011 with a majority of 4,349 votes. Prior to that she was the MSP for Govan. (Govan constituency was abolished prior to 2011 following a review of constituency boundaries). Nicola really needs no introduction as she's one of the most weel kent people in the country. But Nicola is, first and foremost, a local MSP and she regards representing the people of Glasgow Southside as an enormous privilege. Our campaign will reflect that.
Local SNP members are gearing up to help Nicola and her campaign team fight this year's election. In fact our campaign has already started - but we do need your help to win. Our local campaign will be funded entirely by Glasgow Southside SNP. We'd love you to help our campaign in any way you can.
What do we need money for?
These are some of the major campaign expenses we need to fund.
- A campaign base. We have rented an office at 50 Albert Road G42 8DN. This gives us somewhere to store campaign materials and to do indoor work like stuffing envelopes; it gives us a place to meet up before canvassing or leafleting (and have a cup of tea or coffee afterwards) and to hold campaign meetings. Later on in the campaign the office will be open to the public full time so that we can assist people with enquiries and electoral registration.
- Campaign literature. In the next few months we'll leaflet the entire constituency with a survey card and deliver further leaflets closer to polling day. It's really important to get accurate information out to voters and to make it easy for them to get in touch with us. A leaflet or survey card through the door means everyone will have the information we want them to have.
- Letters to voters. While the purpose of leafleting is to ensure a blanket delivery of information across the constituency, writing letters to voters is all about targeted communication and following up on contacts we have made. Our campaigners have already contacted many thousands of electors in Glasgow Southside and will contact thousands more in the run-up to May 5th. It's very important to stay in touch with those voters, so we follow up the initial contact with personally addressed letters.
- Posters & banners. We want to give window posters to all our supporters - and to have a supply of larger banners for those who would like to display them. A good display of window posters and banners ensures everyone knows there is an election on and encourages SNP supporters to get out and vote.
So these are the kinds of things we are asking you to help fund. Fighting a really good local campaign requires money and we want to fight the best campaign possible.
It's really important that we take nothing for granted. Opinion polls may show us in the lead - but we're going to campaign for every single vote in Glasgow Southside, just as we have always done.
I hope that this has given you some insight into how we campaign at a grassroots level & has hopefully inspired you to want to help.
You can donate any amount from £5 upwards. Please be assured that any donation, however small or large, will make a real difference and help us secure a decisive win in Glasgow Southside.
