We are demanding free, safe and legal access to abortion services for all those who do not want to carry a pregnancy to term.
In the past two years, two women have been admitted to the courts to face charges relating to the termination of a pregnancy. This year thousands of women will travel from Ireland to access basic medical services not available to them here. Those who cannot afford the £400-£2000 associated costs or make the journey will be forced to turn to other methods which puts their life and their freedom at risk.
This year three brave women handed themselves in to police for the ‘crime’ of helping vulnerable women access abortion – meeting the needs of those left behind by the state. All of these women face the possibility of prosecution under the draconian laws still in place in Ireland, North and South.
Abortion in Northern Ireland remains illegal under a law from 1861, which seeks to designate women as vessels for the production of children and little else. We hope to see no more women prosecuted or convicted under this law. We are demanding free, safe and legal access to abortion services for all those who do not want to carry a pregnancy to term.
We are tired of priests and bishops marching down our streets and telling us how best to live our lives. We are tired of playing host to the charade of the ‘Rally for Life’ which seeks to do little other than see women continue to be trapped in unwanted pregnancies and to simply see children born but not fed, clothed, educated or cared for. We are tired of the domination of religious control over women’s bodies.
This year there must be no illusions about how we feel about their views. It must be clear that we will fight against them and their desire to hold women in the 19th century. We are hoping to hold Ireland's largest Rally for Choice to counter the lies of the anti-choice movement - we are asking for your support to ensure that women in Ireland aren't left to languish in the 19th century, but are entitled to free, safe and legal healthcare in their area.
We need your help to help us raise the funds required to
(1) Advertise for the Rally for Choice
(2) Get people from all over Ireland to the Rally through providing buses
(3) Be able to provide rally materials such as banners, flags, posters etc.
Any money left over will be used to help women access abortion in Ireland.
