Help Tir Pontypridd raise £40-£50K to secure an ancient woodland for the benefit of the community, nature and biodiversity, in just 3 weeks!
Tir Pontypridd
Croeso, we are Tir Pontypridd Cymdeithas Cyfyngedig, a Community Benefit Society set up by local residents to raise funds to purchase land in and around our town, for the benefit of our community, nature, and biodiversity.
Our communities, nature, and biodiversity have all been placed under huge strain over recent decades and the decisions that have brought this strain upon us, such as how land around were we live is managed, are often taken far beyond the places we call home.
We feel our communities should have more control over these decisions, and that the best way we can achieve this is for our communities to own the land. A community that owns its own land holds the keys for determining its own future. Tir Pontypridd aims to be the first town in Cymru to own its own future.
The 'Tir Treforest' Crowd-Funder
We have recently been made aware that approximately 7.923 acres of ancient, predominantly broadleaf, woodland has been listed for sale for offers over £20,000 by informal tender in Treforest, Pontypridd. It is on a steeply sloping easterly-facing gradient, and comes with some liabilities that we'll need to manage.
The Informal Tender Deadline is midday 14th July. We have 3 just weeks!

Two weeks ago several board members, and a local community member, went to have a look, and we concluded that whilst the woodland has some limited potential for improving community access, our primary purpose in securing this woodland will be to look after it for the benefit of nature & biodiversity.
We put some feelers out to people we know in the local community, and asked people what they thought of the idea via social media. We've had several conversations with interested residents, and met with a small group of residents to discuss how we might work together to secure this ancient woodland.
As a result our Directors agreed to launch this crowd-funder!

We need to raise £40,000 - £50,000 to cover purchase costs legal fees, install fencing that is a requirement of the sale, carry out maintenance on some boundary fencing to moderate fly-tipping risks, improve community access, and set-aside funds for the long-term liabilities that come with owning land.
You can support us by donating to this crowd funder, or by joining Tir Pontypridd as a shareholding member via our website www.tirpontypridd.org
If you would prefer to make a direct donation to support the purchase and care of this ancient woodland, or you would like to purchase more than £1 worth of shares, then please email [email protected]
What happens if we don't meet our crowd-funding target?
If we don't meet our crowd-funding target, decide not to purchase, or our informal tender is not accepted, we will retain the funds raised via this crowd-funder. These funds will then contribute towards the next area of land that we look to purchase for the benefit of our community, nature and biodiversity.
Tax relief: HMRC recognises Tir Pontypridd as a charitable company for tax purposes, and our charities reference number is ZD47447. This means we don't pay tax on income and gains that meet our charitable purposes, and any donation you make as an individual is tax free, and eligible for gift aid etc.
