The well was opened in 1868 and is a unique feature of the area, it is currently in urgent need of restoration and repair.
The installation of this victorian well was paid for by public subscription and was opened in 1868. It was in use until 1906, when the South Oxfordshire water company connected the village of Kidmore End to a recently built reservoir at Woodcote. The well is an important village landmark, often decorated to celebrate major events, the last event was the coronation of King Charles III in 2023.
The well is located in the centre of two roads. The oak sills have decayed and now the structure is unsafe and needs immediate repair and restoration. It is a Grade 2 listed building, so the work needs to be carried out by specialists, using traditional methods and sustainable materials. This needs to be completed over this summer during the school holidays.
The Parish Council owns the well and has some funds for the repair, but we need your help to raise the funds to complete the project.
