Aim

FFH 5R's is an animal rescue that rescues, rehabilitates, reunites, rehomes and retirement for all dogs as well as the odd cat.

Finding Forever Homes 5R's has been running for six years, working tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, reunite, rehome and provide retirement for dogs in need. Throughout that time, the team has been steadily completing all required legal steps to operate fully within regulations, with just one final piece remaining, their official protector licence.

Over the years, police have attended the rescue several times following repeated complaints from one individual. On every occasion, officers confirmed the rescue was well run, with no welfare concerns. Any points raised were minor administrative matters, such as ensuring passports were collected from the vets to confirm vaccinations were up to date.

On 11 February, the animal welfare division attended alongside local police after it was revealed that daily complaints had been made since October. Once again, a full inspection was carried out. Officers confirmed the rescue is operating well, animals are properly cared for, and any newly rescued dogs simply require routine vaccinations, microchips and passports once the 21 day holding period has passed in case owners come forward.

Following this visit, FFH 5R’s has been given 15 days to start the process of securing their protector licence known as the Núcleo zoológico. This is the final legal requirement and will officially place the rescue on the recognised list, allowing police to work directly with them to help stray and abandoned dogs.

The cost is expected to be around £1,000, and could rise to £2,000 depending on additional requirements such as architectural drawings needed for the application.

Securing this licence means stability, protection and the ability to continue saving lives with official support behind them.

FFH 5R’s Rescue, everything they do is guided by our five core principles:

🐾 Rescue – Saving dogs from whatever situation they find themselves in and giving them a second chance at life.

🐾 Rehabilitate – Providing medical care and behavioural support to help them heal and rebuild trust.

🐾 Reunite – Reuniting lost dogs with their loving owners whenever possible.

🐾 Rehome – Finding safe, loving forever homes for dogs and cats in our care.

🐾 Retirement – Offering golden oldies a peaceful, comfortable place to live out their final days, weeks, months, or years surrounded by love.

The Reality Right Now

FFH 5R's currently care for 21 dogs and 5 cats, all of whom rely on us every single day for food, shelter, medical care, and love.

The dogs alone go through:

🐶 One large bag of kibble every 2½ days (£25 per bag)

🐶 10 tins of wet food per day (£29 per tray of 12)

The cats require:

🐱 5–8 sachets of wet food daily

🐱 A large bag of dry food each month

🐱 1-2 bags of litter each month

Altogether, our cats cost approximately £40 per cat, per month, including treats.

Ongoing Costs

Running a rescue involves much more than food.

They also face:

🏠 Rent so our animals have a safe roof over their heads

💡 Water and electricity bills

🌐 WiFi to respond to emails, post on social media, and find forever homes

🩺 Vet costs – currently approximately £1000 in arrears, with more vaccinations, microchips, and neutering appointments due

🚐 The rescue van needs approximately £700 to get back on the road so they can rescue dogs, collect donations, transport animals to the vet, and take on walks

🛠 Repairs to runs, plus new gazebos and shelters to provide much-needed shade during summer

As soon as we make progress paying off debts, new essential costs arise. But the animals cannot wait.

How Your Support Helps

Every pound raised will go directly towards the licence and anything over the cost of this will go towards:

  • Feeding the dogs and cats
  • Paying off urgent vet bills
  • Covering essential running costs
  • Getting the rescue van on the road
  • Improving and maintaining safe shelter areas

Your support means full bowls, warm beds, lifesaving treatment, and second chances.

Together, we can help the rescue continue standing by the 5 R’s and give these animals the love and future they deserve. ❤️🐾

The aim is to raise enough for the licence and to help cover some of the essentials whilst sorting the licence out bit any extra will go towards the vet arrears being cleared, getting the van on the road and stocking up on plenty of food for the animals.
