Aim

To boost membership, our training program, and competitions so we can once again thrive.

As we all know the impact of COVID-19 have been felt across the UK and worldwide, and continue to pose businesses, charities and organisations with difficulties, including our own swimming club.

But the good news is that Sport England and Crowdfunding have now launched a fund to help clubs like ours. We have set a target of raising £10,000 in 4 weeks so your help and support are greatly appreciated.

Established in 1976, Deepings Swimming Club is a successful club in Lincolnshire that aims to be at the heart of the local community, working at all levels and ages to inspire swimmers to reach their full potential. We aim to achieve this by providing a secure and caring environment where every member is valued and encouraged to work together as a team to achieve their goals.

We are a competitive club, so the training is designed to develop swimmers’ skills to enable them to compete in a sport they enjoy. Younger swimmers usually start off doing hour-long skills sessions, learning and practising their strokes in a fun and structured way. As they progress, they move up to longer sessions and from there into squads that train several times a week.

Swimmers can join if they are in a Swim School and have achieved Level 6 or above.  But it is not just younger swimmers we cater for; we also have specific training sessions for adults, who form our successful master’s squad.

Our swimmers compete at all levels, from friendly galas against local clubs, in regional leagues, open meets and at County, Midlands and National level with our squad structure and training designed to help swimmers achieve their goals. We are able to do this thanks to the professionalism and dedication of the swimmers, coaches and volunteers.

Our membership predominantly comes from the Deepings area as well as from Bourne, Stamford and Spalding.

The club has been hit hard by COVID-19 and the temporary closure of its home pool during 2020, which resulted in a number of members leaving the club.

We went from being one of Lincolnshire’s top swimming clubs with more than 120 members to one that has been fighting for its survival, as membership dropped to below 80.

Then, as we emerged from the latest coronavirus lockdown and were starting to get the club back on track, we had the devastating news that our home pool at Deepings Leisure Centre was to permanently close due to a leaking roof.

Although the council is now looking to repair the roof, this is unlikely to happen for several years, which forced the club to look for a new home.

We have now happily relocated to a new home at Stamford Endowed Schools, giving us the opportunity to rebuild the club. However, we now also have to employ and pay for lifeguards to cover our training sessions, something we did not have to do at Deepings Leisure Centre, which is putting further strain on our finances.

We have worked hard to secure a new home and now need funding to help us boost membership, our training program, and competitions so we can once again thrive.

Our target of £10,000 will also enable us to pay for the provision of lifeguards for the next 12 months and to train more volunteer coaches, as well as aid us in general running costs, including pool hire.

Anything you can do to help us would be greatly appreciated and will mean we can continue to serve the communities as the local swimming club for years to come.
