Crewkerne & Neighbourhood Crisis is a community group set up to oppose the Station Road housing development and needs your help.
CREWKERNE & NEIGHBOURHOOD CRISIS
PLEASE HELP US – WE NEED URGENT SUPPORT NOW!
Crewkerne Neighbourhood Crisis (CNC) is raising funds to oppose Station Road Housing Application 25/02044/OUT – a substantial proposal for 325 homes and mixed-use development that affects Crewkerne, Misterton, Haselbury Plucknett and North Perrott.
In addition to the several new developments built in the last decade, another 738 houses are approved but not yet built, these are all on green sites in Crewkerne, while another 46 dwellings are approved on the brown site land of Viney Mill.
Residents strongly believe the number and scale of new developments in the pipeline will adversely affect the wellbeing of Crewkerne residents and those of its neighbouring villages.
If 25/02044/OUT goes ahead the additional consequences, especially in terms of traffic and flooding will be overwhelming, damaging and irreversible.
Crewkerne Town Council and ALL 3 Neighbourhood Parish Councils have objected to 25/20244/OUT but the final decision lies with Somerset Council or the Planning Inspectorate.

We urgently need funds to engage a Planning Solicitor and commission Independent Traffic and Flood Risk Reports because without Professional Independent evidence, our voices risk being dismissed: we urgently need donations now so we can get these reports back in time, before the Application is decided.

SOME OF THE ALARMING CONSEQUENCES IF 25/02044/OUT GOES AHEAD:

Last year Misterton recorded 4.600 vehicles in a single day (Cars Lorries, tractors and HGV’s) – this is before Wool Gardens, Goldwell and Tillia sites are completed, and before Viney Mills begins later this year.

Increased traffic = increased damage to our roads and Historic Buildings.
Risk of roads with No or Narrow Pavements becoming more dangerous.
Increased commuting due to lack of local employment opportunities. Increased rat-running through narrow village roads.

The only Flood Risk Assessment submitted has been produced by the Developer. There is no independent, community, commissioned Flood Risk Study. Meaning the burden of proof is now on us, the community, to find out if this development will make flooding worse.
Once land is built on, flood risk cannot be reversed.
