About the project

York is now a UNESCO city, a City of Media Arts. That's exciting stuff. These are early days, but it looks as though York is going to make good on its promise to straddle two worlds: the past, with its heritage and its bombast; and it's future, with some glittering digital technology to enable it to go duke for duke with any city, anywhere in the world.

Radically, our project, 'Text', will bring the voices of Yorkshire's most vulnerable citizens to lead in telling the story of the area's next digital chapter. Artists, players, businessfolk and twitter's keyboard warriors are all putting the two pennies in about how innovation is set to transform York, but for once the primary voice in social media will be from people with learning difficulties, with complex physical needs, young people with mental anxiety, and children from economically deprived backgrounds.

We have poised some of the University of York's sharpest researchers to build bespoke algorithm based interfaces; we have 3D prints based on cutting edge text based CAD files; we have the Rolls Royce of letterpress printing and interactive light installations ready to rock our Clifford's Tower, York front window.

You are naturally invited to getting involved at the ground level by pledging whatever you can spare. I'm sure you'll agree that the accompanying rewards are quite, quite ripe. Having your name/business/brand displayed in cutting edge light installations is not bad for the get go.

Read on! Join us. Many amount of innoavitive, experimental and philanthropic fun to be had.
