Introduction

A group of local residents has got together to raise funds to transform the existing play park in the village of Holcombe Rogus. As of November 2021, an impressive £50k has been raised through successful grant applications, contributions through the Parish Council and local donations. A remaining amount of £16k is needed to supply and install the park designed for the area.

The Park

The existing park has kindly been donated to the village by the late Mary Fewings and is in desperate need of investment into some play equipment. Equipment has been removed over the last couple of years due to failing to comply with health and safety regulations, leaving a slide and steps with a fire pole.

Mid Devon District Council no longer maintain our play area, so the community and Parish Council had the option to either take it on or lose it.

The village of Holcombe Rogus and the local area has many families who live there or visit the area, all of whom would benefit from the regeneration of this public space.

Community Fundraising

This crowdfunding initiative is one way that Community Fundraisers are planning to raise the remaining money. We are also continuing to identify and apply for grants and also have a number of fundraising events planned.

Planned events include:

  • Collaborating with the Holcombe Rogus Christmas Light Switch on event on Friday 10th December 2021. Children will be shaking donation buckets, a raffle will be held and a donation based on sales of food is likely from the catering supplier;
  • Children's Christmas Craft Session on Tuesday 21st December;
  • Running the café at Januarys monthly market in Burlescombe and Westleigh Community Hall;
  • Holding regular coffee mornings in Holcombe Rogus;
  • Nearly New Sale on Saturday 5th February 2022 at Holcombe Rogus Village Hall.

Other events from February onwards to be planned, with talks of a Spring Fun Day and Stage School Sessions.

Timescales

The quote provided by the chosen supplier is based on installation in Summer 2022. The Fundraising Team is eager to have raised the full amount by this date.
