Help fund a new wheelchair for Nadenh, a professional dance artist with Stopgap Dance Company.

New stretch target

..

Summary

Stopgap Dance Company are a charity and we need to raise funds for a new wheelchair for one of our emerging dancers, Nadenh Poan, who is currently using a broken, child sized, eight-year-old chair. Nadenh’s chair is falling apart; currently held together by gaffer tape and many makeshift pieces that Nadenh has assembled himself.

This makes his chair not only inadequate for the demands of everyday life, but also dangerous for his work as a dance artist. With your help, we hope to raise enough money to pay for a new custom-built chair for Nadenh. This chair will actually be made to fit an adult and will accommodate the demands of his job.

It will allow him to continue to develop as an artist, continue to work and take risks in a safe way. It will also allow him to teach and to inspire the next generation of dancers.

"It has been an honor to get a chance to learn from Nadenh and watch him work. As a performer he has so much talent. He connects with the audience and with his fellow performers. You can't take your eyes off of him. As a teacher he is kind and engaging. He treats the youth group members with so much respect, and challenges them to grow. He gives them energy." - Ana, Stopgap intern and disabled dance student

About You

Stopgap Dance Company creates exhilarating dance productions of international standard. We employ disabled and non-disabled artists who find innovative ways to collaborate. We value a pioneering spirit and are committed to making discoveries about integrating disabled and non-disabled people through dance. Difference is our means and our method. As a charitable organisation, we openly share skills and knowledge through performance, professional training, community outreach and publications. We create our work for the widest possible audience because we want to shift perceptions about difference and inspire everyone to achieve their potential.

Nadenh is a member of Sg2, Stopgap’s Emerging Artists Company for disabled and non-disabled dancers with an interest in integration and collaboration. Sg2 dancers are employed full time to receive training from Stopgap Dance Company. The company lead local creative learning projects, tour professionally and run the Stopgap Youth Dance Companies.  Nadenh’s role in Stopgap is essential to the education and inspiration of the next generation of disabled artists; enabling them to gain access to a means of expression and a pathway into employment and further vocational training.

Nadenh plays a pivotal part in constantly developing Stopgap’s revolutionary responsive dance teaching. Raising the standard of disability performance and education and devising new movement vocabularies as a dancer and for the young dancers to whom he is a mentor.

Why are you Crowdfunding?

We need to buy Nadenh a new wheelchair. Without this wheelchair Nadenh will not be able to work. As a charity we do not have the funds to buy a custom built new chair. This will give Nadenh the freedom to work, teach and perform. A new chair will also mean that Nadenh can work in a safe and comfortable way. He will have the mobility he needs to do everyday activities, as well as to continue making high quality, innovative dance work that pushes the limits, creates new possibilities and inspires the young people he works with.
