To help keep young farmer 6 yr old Laila producing her eggs despite the thefts she has recently experienced.
Laila is a lovely young girl who helps her mother "The unconventional Shepherdess" on their farm in Suffolk. I have started this crowdfunding page after a recent blogpost from her mother which hopefully explains why:
"I bring my daughter up learning about the real world. Learning you only get out what you put in but also with a knowing and understanding where food comes from. How you only get out what you put in. To value life and be thank you for its rewards. To understand welfare, to have an empathy for her animals. Yes you can get cute pictures, but these pictures show a love, respect, caring. A child who us happy, proud, fulfilled. But she is also being taught farm safety to have a respect, and a understanding for the animals with the highs bring the lows.
She knows she is not ever allow in the cow field without me or a farrowing sow. But she can spot a lambing ewe a mile way, she can round up and move a flock of sheep calmly working with the sheep to get the best out of them. She has learn about foot care, fly strike nutrition ect. She has stood in front of an audience and asked to give a talk on the bees and beekeeping. But Lailas eggs is her own child she showed from a early age and the excitement of this little adventure, a way of seeing and understanding. Learning about money counting, understanding you have to pay for fed, bedding, upkeep, welfare, fencing, replacing stock....But for her today after another theft to hear "Mummy we need to get more corn for the chickens, but there is not money in the tin? " Broke my heart.
I hate to put negativity in this page but after another week of having all of Lailas eggs stolen or like today the very kind sum of 6p left for an entire tray of 30.....
Please can that person tell my 6 year why they feel it's their right to steal. These animals have to be fed, watered, enriched, bedded down, housed, looked after, insured, rent, and somewhere £200 had to be found to buy a polytunnel to add extra room whilst the country is on lock down due to bird flu. Every penny of Lailas eggs goes back into their enrichment and upkeep, but again it's our loyal customers who suffer as well as I withdraw eggs again. (Which makes me sad).
Lailas eggs are an official umbrella of Heath Farm, registered and certified Free Range. Alot of hard work goes in the chickens.
It's a sad sad day when again your daughter's life lesson is about dishonest people."
