My name is William Birch, and I live in Heywood Greater Manchester. in November 2010 I visited Jinja in Uganda. While there I met Sanon Muyaka, and he informed me of what he was trying to achieve in local communities, SEE www.hofaabode.blogspot.com/HOPE FOR AIDS ORPHANS/ABODE iNTERNATIONAL....for a fuller picture of what we are doing. Sanon was trying to get help from anywhere he could, and I said when I got back to the U.K. I would see what I could do. I asked my cousiin in Eire if she would like to help me and she agreed that it would be very worthwhile, especially as we knew the people that we were about to send money to,and could get both pictures of the progress and receipts for money sent. My cousin said she would try to get 15 people to donate a sum every month for a year, and she managed to do just that. I also had people over here, but not as many: 8-10 varying. With this small commitment we bought bunk beds (as they were sleeping on the floor) blankets, clothes, shoes, sent them to school, and rented a small couple of rooms, one for the boys and another for the girls.

The year passed in August 2012,and the irish people decided to leave their monthly donations in favour of a more flexible arrangement where they were not bound, but contribute when they could because of the financial downturn in the Irish economy, and the uncertainty it brought with it to so many. I had to accept this reality, but kept 8 regular monthly donors over here, and we are still carrying on with this arrangement. We have managed to keep 26 children of Christian and Muslim faiths,at school, fed and clothed, and rented a new biggger building with boys and girls dormitories and in it's own grounds with walls around it giving a very safe environment for them to call their home. We have a manager,Sanon Muyaka,a cook,a teacher (for extra lessons, and helping with homework),a social worker and a hotel management graduate as permanent staff. Money for wages are provided by myself. We have also had one off donations from wellwishers, and our donors have done sponsored activities.

We have been given one and a half acres of land by the Ugandan authorities, and have built the foundations of our new building on this land. What we will use the money we raise for is completing the walls and roof etc of our building. We need to finish it this year, and will build the living quarters first so we can move the children in,so freeing up the rent money we are now paying. We will grow our own food on the rest of the land, will make a large oven to make bread and cakes to sell, and also buy chickens to lay eggs for resale. If we are able to afford it in the future we have room for some computers to make into an internet cafe,as there is not one in the area, and they are very popular with people in Jinja. This is what makes us different because we will become self sufficient. We are building in a very poor area where we can bring much needed help in the future, and this is our long term aim,to be able to give something to the community, and surrounding areas once we have become established. So when the building is done, any money raised by us after will be going on new projects in the local community. All my staff are going to move to the new area 12 kilometres from Jinja, showing what  great commitment they truly have to helping their own people given the chance,
