Two years ago the SNP made history in gaining the Glasgow South West constituency for the very first time. On election night the swing from Labour nearly broke the BBC's swingometer, such was the impact of the tremendous campaign on the ground we had in the run up to polling day.
Now we need to ensure that Chris Stephens is re-elected as MP and Glasgow South West continues to have a strong voice at Westminster. With the Tories on course for a victory in England & Wales, it's more vital than ever that Scotland has a team of first-rate MPs standing against the extremism on display from Theresa May and her right-wing cronies.
In the last 24 months, Chris has:
- taken on over 4,500 constituent cases
- spoken 549 times in Parliament
- submitted 222 written questions
- sponsored 430 Early Day Motions
- held over 200 advice surgeries
- opened a drop-in constituency office
- introduced a Ten-Minute Rule Bill to tackle the Telephone Tax
- served on the European Scrutiny Committee
- represented all 64,515 constituents
- led the SNP fight against the Trade Union Act
- campaigned for justice for the victims of contaminated blood
and much, much more.
Glasgow South West needs an MP like Chris to continue the outstanding work he's done over the last two years into the next five. But we can only win with your help.
Already we have leaflets, letters, and survey cards at the printers, and have secured a set of rooms for the campaign. We have a tremendous team of committed activists and supporters who will work hard to secure every vote. But there is so much more we can do with more financial backing from our supporters. We want to deliver targeted mailings to local areas; to increase our publicity machine; to ensure every household knows the work Chris and the SNP have done over recent years; in short, the more money we raise, the more we can do.
