Grandfather Frost has been seen wandering the streets of Penzance, large Polar Bear in tow, seeking a place for his Christmas Depot. Thanks to Pop Up Penzance, he will set up his depot in the empty Peasgoods shop and will bring marvellous magic: wish-filled firecrackers; glittering icicles; Aurora Borealis stored in the cellar; candy cane-covered fir trees; fireplaces with stockings; and of course, North Polar Bear. All going well, local children and families will be welcome with to visit Grandfather Frost and experience the magic and wonder of his Christmas Depot for themselves

Pop Up Penzance is a community project which aims to revitalise the town centre of Penzance through temporary activities in empty shops and underused spaces. We have teamed up with the wonderful Cornwall-based theatre company Mercurial Wrestler to create a really magical, immersive experience for local people in the run up to Christmas.

The first thing our local children will know about this is when they see Grandfather Frost's postboxes dotted around the town, with invitations to write and post their Christmas Wishes, to be collected by his helpers. From mid December they will then have the chance to visit his magical Depot, with their friends and family, and immerse themselves in his world of candy cane-covered fir trees, glittering icicles, Aurora Borealis,  fireplaces with stockings, North Polar Bear, and of course Grandfather Frost who will share stories and personalised wish-filled firecrackers.

As you have seen in our film, Grandfather Frost has found a place on the main street of Penzance, the old chemist's Peasgoods, now empty, which will be transformed into his Christmas Depot.

We need funding for: equipment with which we will create a magical, Christmas atmosphere, materials to transform the shop and create little wish-filled crackers for the children, actors to play the parts of Grandfather Frost and his helpers, and some other production costs.

Mercurial Wrestler are Resident Artists at AIR Falmouth, Hall for Cornwall and Watershed Bristol. They create immersive performance, inspired by pervasive media and they love a challenge to make the impossible possible.

Pop Up Penzance have been popping up in empty shops in Penzance since July 2013, with a mixture of community, arts, and entrepreneurial initiatives. We want to give local people lots of reasons to come into town, to enjoy themselves, engage with the community, and to support our local businesses. Our Facebook page will give you an indication of our various activities.

We are very keen to make this an affordable experience for everyone in Penzance, and will be charging only a small entrance fee in the region of £2. Working with local community projects we will make free tickets available to families and children for whom that would be too much.

For those who can make a larger donation, our Opening Party will be an opportunity for you to come and meet the teams involved in this project, and to celebrate, with wine and music, the achievement of getting this gorgeous project off the ground. We will be delighted to meet you and if you have ideas for the future of Penzance town centre, we'll be very interested to explore them with you. Anyone who is interested in getting involved with Pop Up Penzance, in any of our activities, please do get in touch on info@popuppenzance.co.uk.

We really appreciate your donations, and your efforts in getting them to us.

Thank You!
