We are creating a crowdfunding project for ‘The Ark of Thodori’, this is a dog shelter on the Greek island of Chios, home to one of our group members. Our group is made up of four students. We have two people from Greece, one from Latvia and one from the UK. The shelters name came from a man called Thodoris who created and built the shelter. The shelter is currently hosting more than 70 dogs with continuous struggle and effort made by four volunteers who constitute it. Also, the association has another 20 dogs in hospitals. Moreover, puppies who are currently looking for families.

The shelter has now been running for almost 3 years, during this period more than 700 stray puppies or old dogs and several cats have found families in and out of Chios (Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Oinousses) but also abroad in Belgium, Denmark, London, Canada, Germany, Austria. However, without the volunteers' personal salaries the shelter would not be able to run. The monthly costs are for treating the animals, feeding them, medicines and maintenance of the shelter. Those costs are over 2.000 pounds, which is difficult to be raised by only 4 people. Therefore, your donation will be a step forward for the shelter's future.
In Greece there is a big problem with stray dogs it is growing day by day. The reason why we chose the ‘Ark of the Thodori’ is the dedication of those four volunteers to help every dog they find in anyway they can, in contrast with the negativity of a minority of the island’s community and their contribution to worsening the stray dog situation. It is important to support this association, if each one of us made a little effort, these dogs and cats may be able to find a permanent home. This crowdfunding project will be extra motivation for the volunteers to continue their good work at the shelter for many years to come.
