All over the UK we are winning. This year, slowly but surely the power of the student divestment movement is growing. Students at universities and colleges are taking on the giants, the fossil fuel industry, who are no longer laughing, they are fighting us. But right now, we need you more than ever.
Can you support Fossil Free to keep going? We're People & Planet - the UK's largest student network campaigning for environmental and social justice and we need to raise £15,000. We're a tiny staff team of 10 supporting a grassroots student movement to ramp up the volume and take on the battle ahead.
What is Fossil Free?
It's been called 'the fastest growing divestment movement the world has ever seen'.
Just over a year since People & Planet launched Fossil Free in the UK, we've supported 58 new campaigns at universities and colleges around the country.
Fossil Free is part of a growing international divestment movement calling on organisations, institutions and individuals to demonstrate climate leadership and end their financial support for the fossil fuel industry.
Already, a growing number of universities, cities, religious institutions and organisations around the world are committing to divest, and world leaders are starting to speak out. From Tobacco to Apartheid South Africa, history shows us that divestment can make real change.
Why is People & Planet crowdfunding?
Students are stepping up their game and the fossil fuel industry is no longer laughing at them, they are fighting back. The industry is a huge machine with a lot of power and a lot of money. In 2013 alone, fossil fuel industries spent well in excess of half a million dollars every day lobbying US and EU decision makers. In response to creative student protests the industry is touring around UK universities and colleges with slick PR campaigns, with disturbing recruitment drives and with incentives to win students over.
Students are at the forefront of the Fossil Free movement, and People & Planet exists to support them every step of the way. We run free training, put on movement-building events and actions, produce free materials and we are always there to support student groups around the country taking on the fossil fuel industry.
We are a tiny support team, supporting a grassroots movement of students. We need to fundraise to keep up the momentum and to make sure the fossil fuel industry does not shout louder than we do. Can you help us fundraise for a paid intern to support student Fossil Free campaigns? Your donation will go directly to fund a new staff position - a Fossil Free Coordinator. They'll spend their year with us working one-on-one with students at universities and colleges who want to challenge the fossil fuel industry.

Not able to donate yourself?
- Put on a Fossil Free fundraiser with your group. You could hold a cake sale, shake a bucket, or put on a film night.
- Donate your time or skills by choosing that option on the right. You could volunteer on the Fossil Free campaign with us. Or you could start a Fossil Free campaign at your university or college. If you already have one at your uni, why not support a local college to get one going?
