New stretch target
Thank you to everyone for their support. We've been overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends in the legal aid world. Any new donations towards our stretch target will help us to keep the LALYs as accessible as possible for friends and supporters across the sector.
Friends of LALY16
Since they were launched in 2003 by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group, the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year (LALY) awards have been a grassroots celebration of the important and often life-changing work done by publicly-funded lawyers.
There is no other awards ceremony like it!
For the first time this year, we are giving our many supporters the chance to be recognised as Friends of LALY16, by making a donation towards the cost of sponsoring the Legal Aid Newcomer award. The newcomer award is always one of the highlights of the evening, as it recognises the extraordinary dedication and commitment of newer entrants to the profession - which is something that is definitely worth celebrating.
In keeping with the inclusive spirit of the LALYs, you can become a Friend of LALY16 from as little as £10, which will be rewarded with a mention in the ceremony programme and on screen during the awards presentation. Higher amounts attract even greater recognition - and all donors will receive as standard heartfelt thanks from LALY co-organisers Carol Storer (LAPG director) and Fiona Bawdon. (Donors can also opt for anonymity.)
Friends of LALY16 will be listed in the order in which their donations were made.
This year’s ceremony will be held on 7 July in central London.
The LALYs have always derived their success from the loyal support they attract from all sectors of the legal aid profession - and it is this which is what makes them such a popular and special event. They are non-profit-making and rely on sponsorship, plus a small amount of money raised from selling a limited number of modestly-priced tickets for the ceremony itself. All money raised by Friends of LALY16 will go towards the cost of staging the LALYs, and help us to keep ticket prices low to ensure that attending this unique celebration of legal aid lawyers can continue to be accessible to as many people in the profession as possible.
To keep our admin costs to a minimum, all donations must be made via the crowdfunder site.
The deadline for Friends of LALY16 donations is 25 April 2016 (which is also the date for the close of awards nominations).
To find out more about making a nomination, see www.lapg.co.uk
All the winners, including Legal Aid Newcomer, will be announced at the ceremony on 7 July 2016 - which is when the names of everyone who has donated to become a Friend of LALY16 will be publicised.
Tickets for the ceremony will go on sale shortly and will be sold strictly on a first come, first served basis. It is always our policy to give a set number of free tickets to each year’s finalists, which means the number of tickets we have available to sell is very limited. Please note, being a Friend of LALY16 does not guarantee the right to attend the ceremony.
