Southern Roots Organics CSA Crowdfuding Success!!Not only did we finish our crow...
We are setting up a Community Support Agriculture Scheme in West Dorset to supply local households with fresh, seasonal, organic vegetables!
ABOUT OUR PROJECT
Southern Roots Organics is a market garden run by Adam Payne and Dee Butterly.
We produce vegetables on 2 acres of land rented from Lower Hewood Farm in West Dorset.
In response to local demand, this season we want to start a Community Supported Agriculture Scheme to supply 25 households.
Raising funds
In order to make this happen and get our project off the ground we need to raise £5000 to invest in essential equipment, infrastructure and materials.
Before launching our crowdfunder we set a stretch target of £9500. If we are able to raise this extra £4500 in the next two and half weeks we will be able to do the following:
What is a CSA?
A Community Supported Agriculture scheme is a relationship between farmers and people in the local community.
People become members of the CSA by buying a share of the harvest for the growing season, receiving a big box of delicious, fresh vegetables every week of the growing season.
All the produce is grown by us using organic methods and most of it harvested on the day of delivery.
In addition to a weekly veg box, members will also be invited to seasonal farm days, and we will offer free traineeships for people wanting to learn more about organic growing.
Why is it important?
By committing to support us for the growing season, members help make farming a more financially secure and enjoyable occupation, allowing young growers like ourselves to make a start and earn a living.
For Farmers a Community Supported Agriculture scheme offers a more predictable and secure income, lower risks and stronger relationships with the people who eat our produce.
In return members get fantastic quality vegetables at a fair price, and a relationship to the people and land that produce their food.
Would you like to join Southern Roots CSA and get a weekly box of vegetables from us this season?
