Planning Democracy is fighting for people's right to have a voice in planning where often public consultation is little more than a box ticking exercise. We fight for the right for people to be heard, because the planning system is weighted heavily in favour of developers and development. Communities affected by developments whether it be large housing estates built on greenfield sites, fracking wells, or polluting factories have very few rights and cannot challenge decisions once they are made without taking on hugely expensive legal cases.

Over the past 2 years we have stepped up our campaigns while the Government have been considering BIG changes to the way planning is done in Scotland. We have been working hard to influence this, but we have a long way to go.  In autumn 2017 the legislation will be drafted. We desperately need resources to keep the pressure up to make sure communities are given real rights in the legislation...rights that they do not have at present.

Please help us to raise £2000 that will  support this important stage in our campaigning.

Since October 2015 we have consistently called for Equal Rights of Appeal. This would give communities a right to challenge planning decisions.  At the moment, only the developer can appeal if their application is refused. Incredibly, there is no equivalent right for communities to appeal decisions - no matter how blighted their lives may be as a result of a decision to approve development.

We have consistently campaigned for an Equal Right of Appeal and thanks to pressure from Planning Democracy and our network, the issue has been raised at every event, consultation, workshop and working group during the planning review. It was one of the key topics during the parliamentary debate about the upcoming legislation.

Help us now keep up the pressure and make sure Equal Rights of Appeal becomes a reality next year when the legislation is passed.
