Aim

To bring our Welsh clotted Cream to the marketplace allowing people to enjoy a complete quality Welsh Cream Tea Experience

Project aim

To date there is not a Welsh Clotted Cream available to consumers. Our aim is to change that and bring a new and exclusive product, our Welsh clotted Cream to the marketplace giving a complete quality Welsh Cream Tea Experience.

About the project

The funding is required to go towards the equipment needed and create a designated Kitchen meeting the food safety criteria for a product of this nature, to be able to manufacture in the required environment enabling us then to sell our product.

How the idea came about..........

Anglesey Preserves came about in 2009, making luxury preserves from locally sourced and our own grown produce on the Isle Of Anglesey. In 2014 we launched a range of luxury Scones to accompany our preserves and created our 'Afternoon Tea in a Box'. It was at this point we discovered we were unable to source a Welsh Clotted Cream to accompany our Afternoon Tea, we therefore had to purchase another product which indeed was high quality but not produced in Wales.

We then decided to experiment with making our own Welsh Clotted Cream, which went very well, and having been tested by the Food Technology Department it met with all the criteria required to be called a Clotted Cream, ie correct fat content etc, to meet with Trading Standards requirements, and the flavour is wonderful! even though I say so myself.

We then added a page to our website to get feedback from potential customers 'Welsh Clotted Cream coming soon'. The response from this was far more than expected with buyers from both Tesco and Asda contacting us regarding the product. Extracts of e-mails below, I have excluded the buyers  names for privacy reasons only. So as you will see when you read the extracts below there is a gap in the Market for this product, hence all the enquiries we have received, and not only from the larger outlets but also Hotels, Restaurants and many others that have been contacting us all wanting to know when and where they can buy this product.

Good morning after working with ASDA for 10 years I have recently taken up a new role within the local team at ASDA. My role is sourcing new products from Wales for our Welsh stores from existing and new suppliers. The role also encompasses events as this is a massive opportunity within ASDA to highlight the great local products we have already in store or new to market hence my interest in your Clotted Cream.

I am making contact with existing and new suppliers who are interested in future opportunities to work with ASDA and would liike to discuss these opportunities further. I am based in South Wales and very passionate about improving our local offer.

Tesco would be delighted to meet you in 2015 re your plans for Welsh Clotted Cream you have been given very good press. Their chief Wales Marketing Manager (local sourcing) would like you to visit them at their HQ in South Wales - time to suit. Don't worry about mass production etc - they like very Welsh products and are actively seeking to get more on the shelves.
