Aim

The purpose of the #BuyaPubaPint campaign is to support the local independent pubs of Berkhamsted during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Hi, my name's Simon Parker and I don't know about you, but I love a trip to the pub! 

Going to the pub is one of life's pleasures and something that is important to people's mental health and wellbeing. The pub trade is also a very important part of any communities local economy. 

But, with everything that's going on in the world I'm worried that some of our communities pubs may not be able to reopen after the pandemic because they still have lots of costs and little-to-no income, which may lead them to go bust.

Let me set the scene...

One of the reasons why my fiancé and I moved to Berko was because when we came to visit back in 2019, we had the pleasure of going to places like the Kings Arms, the Highway Man and the Rising Sun. 

Since moving here in June, we have now had the opportunity to try many of the other pubs, cafés and restaurants and those experiences have moving to Berko really special for us and we are so happy that we have moved to this lovely community. 

I am sure that we are not the only ones that feel very blessed to have such lovely places to relax and socialise on our doorstep! 

But, I have a concern. With the restrictions that the government have put in place (which if I'm honest I do agree with), I am worried about the commercial sustainability of some of our wonderful town's favourite places. 

As someone who is currently in the process of shutting down a business because of the impact of COVID-19, I feel very strongly  that something needs to be done to make sure that our favourite places are still able to open their doors and continue trading and serving our great community. 

How would you feel if your favourite pub was the The Lamb and you weren't able to pop down for a cheeky pint of Neck Oil and watch the world go by if it had to close because of the restrictions? I personally would be mortified!

Pubs are a British institution and an essential part of our culture and I will be very sad to see any of our pubs shut because of this bloody virus!

I shared this concept on Facebook to see whether people would get behind the idea and got more than 150 likes within less than 24 hours, so I decided to launch the campaign.

The campaign is purely altruistic - people from Berko donate an amount that they can afford to make sure these great pubs and their landlords can keep trading until the world gets back to normal.

Why does the #BuyaPubaPint campaign exist?

The #BuyaPubaPint campaign exists to support independent pubs in Berko during the second wave of COVID-19, because of the restrictions put on the pub trade. 

Who will the money go to?

The money will go to independent pubs in Berko. During the process of the campaign I will be reaching out to all of the independent pubs in Berko to understand how the funds should be best distributed. 

How much of the money will go to the independent pubs of Berko?

100%. The is a volunteer run campaign. Even the Crowndfunder platform we're using to has waived their fees to make sure that every penny of the money goes to where it's needed most.

Can you donate to a single pub or will the money be pooled?

The donations will be split between all of Berko's independent pubs who we agree to partner with. 

How much does the campaign hope to raise? 

The target it £6k. If we can raise this amount (or even more!) it will have a profound impact on the commercial sustainability of our local independent pubs.
