New stretch target
Our Stretch Target of £5,000 will really help to put us on the map. Political campaigns are expensive!
We know that other candidates in our constituency are receiving tens of thousands of pounds in private contributions, and we need all the support we can muster to compete, in our own way.
The extra money will help us get even better organised, and allow us to get into contact with more communities around the constituency. It'll also help with travel costs which, with a constituency like ours, really helps.
Of course: we are the Green Party, so the last thing we'll do is produce lots of wasteful literature!
We're raising funds to get a Green MP elected for Somerton & Frome in May 2015. Theo Simon is a superb candidate but we have to cover the costs of the deposit and campaign.
We have a real opportunity to return a Green MP to Parliament, to fight on behalf of ordinary people, and to challenge the vested interests that are making such a mess of our communities, and of our planet. Unlike the other political parties, we don't have support from big corporations and private wealth.
We rely on you.
Everything that ordinary people have gained - the right to vote, the right for employment protection, the right to welfare, the NHS - has been gained through the collective effort and organisation. It's about pooling our resources to create something bigger than each of us alone.
What we need from you is to make any contribution you can. If you can afford a pound, that's great, but if you can manage more without it feeling like it's a big sacrifice, that's even better!
But we have to find enough resources if we're going to change the way things are being done in this country, and if we're going to guarantee a genuine future for our young people and our children and our planet.
One more thing - please tell your friends about this, and inspire them to contribute and join in.
And just to show you what a great speaker and passionate advocate Theo is, here he is again, in one of his regular video blog posts:
Many, many thanks!
IMPORTANT: ** Donations of over £500 have to be reported to the electoral commission by the Green Party to ensure these donations are made by UK nationals; political parties may not accept donations of over £500 from those not registered to vote.**
Finally, a quick note on our incentives for contributing. Of course, as the Green Party, it would be crazy for us to encourage waste! So we're trying to provide incentives to contribute that have no environmental impact. And as our campaign develops, we'll build on our ideas and provide more if we can. Thanks for your understanding!
