Zero Chippenham Community Energy Start up funding

The IPCC’s ‘1.5 Degrees Special Report’ last year stated that we have 11 years to make the necessary changes to transition to a Zero Carbon economy, if we are to avoid catastrophic climate change.

More recently, David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg have had a huge impact in raising awareness through the mainstream media, prompting people to realise that immediate and significant action is required. This has made far more people appreciate the urgency of the crisis we are now facing and prompted more people than ever before to look for ways to take action. 

At Zero Chippenham, we believe it is possible to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions – the technology already exists – but it needs a concerted effort in terms of education, aligning stakeholders and investing in clean energy and transport solutions.  

To put it another way, Zero Chippenham is the "what next?" that follows the question people are increasingly asking, namely: "I am worried about climate change but what can I do to make a real difference?"

Zero Chippenham is fundraising for projects in 5 key areas and has members with professional experience in these areas, all of whom are committing their spare time to make this work for their community. 

One of these areas is Community Energy, with a focus on renewable energy projects on public and private buildings, to get as much renewable energy powering and heating our buildings as we can, to help hit our Net Zero target.

In order to do this, we are currently establishing ourselves as a formal entity that will enable us to raise finance for community energy assets and infrastructure. 

In the coming years we will promoting community energy opportunities that will allow you to invest in the projects themselves and become part of a vibrant and democratic community owned energy movement.

We can't do this without your support, however, and we are aiming to raise an initial £5k to help establish ourselves as a legal entity with a portfolio of potential projects, which includes taking legal advice and conducting pre-feasibility work on potential community energy projects.
