We are a multicultural club and team of expat cricket players promoting the sport in the remote and beautiful province of Yunnan in southwestern China. We are based in the city of Kunming and we play matches with other clubs from around China and South-East Asia.
Yunnan is the most rural part of China and we are the first people to establish a cricket team here. We are pioneering cricket in China and as such, our goal is to enhance cross-cultural awareness and intercultural interaction in China and to become a truly successful club. We are an inclusive club and we accept players from all backgrounds regardless of gender, race or religion.
However, in order to bring cricket to local Chinese people and take the game to schools as well as develop our facilities and our ability to tour and to host other teams, we require assistance from beyond our immediate community here.
We are a dedicated group but we are digging deep into our own pockets and the pace of development is slow. We are committed to growing cricket in China but it’s hard for us to find sponsors because commercial opportunities are somewhat limited. Our finances are constrained by the fact that almost all of our players are students and English teachers. We don’t have the wealthy expat base that large cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Bangkok enjoy. We don’t even have a proper ground. We struggle to fund ourselves and are unable to charge the high membership fees that normal clubs can command. We are very entrepreneurial in fundraising, organising monthly events for the wider community, but we need support.
