Guildford Library Digital Studio

Help us build a Digital Future!

Guildford library in association with the University of Surrey Business School is raising £5000 to fund a Digital Studio for the children of the community of Guildford.

THE PROJECT

Guildford library needs to raise £5000 to create a space where children and adults will be able to film, edit and share their project with the digital world. STEM and Maker movements - encouraging people to learn and innovate - are growing. Over the last two years, Guildford Library has held digital workshops for children aged 6 to 12 to help them learn to code, build computers and participate in other amazing activities based around STEM subjects.

A large part of the learning experience is sharing what you’ve built with others via film (and learning from them too).  Guildford library now wants to create a digital media studio where children can film their projects which they can then upload to the Surrey Libraries YouTube channel. To make this happen, they need equipment!

HOW WE WILL USE THE FUNDS

If we raise £1500, we'll buy a Padcaster. If we raise £3000 we'll add a Mac computer and editing software. If we raise £5000 we'll buy two Padcasters, the Mac, and an assortment of equipment (such as lights and green screens).

This fabulous Digital Studio will also be available for public use, helping to support local small business and other users, as well as raise awareness about the children’s workshops.  The ambition of the project is to expand the Guildford Makerspace at the library; Surrey’s hub where people can meet, create, learn, and innovate.

Children will be able to use the kit free of charge (subject to a volunteer being available to supervise), and adults will pay a small fee per hour, which will mean that we'll be able to replace the equipment as time goes by.

Guildford library is delighted to be supported by students from the Business School at the University of Surrey.

This is where you come in! Support Youtoo Digital Studio!

UPDATE:

Progress:   We've raised £1500 so far (including donations off-site), so we'll be able to buy a Padcaster!  Now help us to raise money to buy a Mac computer and film editing software.
