New stretch target

Any extra funding would be utilised for putting on more live events - our aim is to take the Young Muslim Voices project to as wide an audience as possible.

Join us in creatively challenging perceptions

We're using crowdfunder to raise money towards our next live events at Rich Mix, Streatham Space Project, and OMEARA.

The Young Muslim Voices Project:

Stories written by young Muslims, performed by diverse casts of actors.

Step 1: Launch a nationwide submissions campaign to invite young Muslims to submit their stories about their experiences of living in the UK.

Through our strict terms of agreement policy, anyone who submits has the choice of complete anonymity.

Step 2: A selection panel of creatives from Muslim heritage will select the pieces which will be performed.

Our aims with the live events are to challenge perceptions and counter stereotypes. These performances provide the audience with a unique opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of others.

Shakespeare's Globe, Voices in the Dark:

Our first live show at Shakespeare’s Globe was a huge success, with a sold-out house, standing ovation, and was featured on the homepage of the Evening Standard Online.

Our Chosen Charity:

We donate 10% of the revenue we make from the Young Muslim Voices live events to the Muslim Hands UK.

Some of the amazing projects they work on include encouraging young children to raise their aspirations and academic achievements; supporting ex-offenders pre and post-release; assisting families and individuals facing poverty; and providing help for drug abusers.

The Film:

In February 2018 we released a short film via media organisations, including Ummahsonic and The Muslim Vibe. Written by awarding winning actor/writer Asif Khan, the film features a diverse cast of 18 brilliant actors telling a story based on a Facebook post written by Jiva Akbor, who shared an experience she had on a flight in 2016.

The Film was the focal point of our 2018 submissions campaign and got over 30K views.

Funding:

Everything we have done up to this point has been without funding; but with the help and support from many generous and talented people. We are now asking for YOUR HELP to join us, in growing and continuing our aim of creating a united society by challenging perceptions and reminding us all of our shared humanity.

The funding will go towards the events themselves:

Including; paying for the actors, crew, director, stage manager, and other production costs.

As well as for marketing the events.

Building a sustainable business:

This funding will get off the ground! And crucially it will provide us with the initial injection we need to build a sustainable business going forwards

Our main source of generating income will be ticketing the events themselves and this revenue will be invested back into the project and developing more live events.

It must be noted that although the events are ticketed we also hold free and early bird tickets for local communities. Moreover 10% of the ticket sales will be donated to our chosen charity; The Muslim Hands UK.

2019 Venues:

Our Future:

With your support, Young Muslims Voices will reach wider audiences and in doing counter mainstream narratives that are based upon stereotyping and misrepresentation.

This will put us in a position from which we can take the Young Muslim Voices project around the country and reach wider audiences. Ultimately our aim is to challenge as many people's perceptions and from the revenue, we will make from the live events this summer, coupled with your donations we can springboard to reach audiences far and wide.

It Doesn't Stop There:

We have plans in place to extend to a digital journalistic platform where the real Voices of our community can be represented in new creative ways that will bring communities closer together.

We believe that there is a growing hunger amongst us all to get beyond mainstream narratives and that our society will be stronger if we can understand each other better through the power of sharing stories.

With your donations, you are joining us in a movement that counters and challenges individuals and organisations who misrepresent and foster an environment of segregation.

Founders:

Siblings, Daisy and Oli Boulton co-founded Voices and the Young Muslim Voices project in January 2016 because of their shared passion to challenge perceptions and promote diversity using the age-old tradition of storytelling.
