We have a great team at the Carers' Centre working hard to make sure young carers get to take a break from their caring role where they get to have fun and get their childhood back. This project will not only help young carers to have time out but will also link to an accredited scheme where young carers will be able to address the educational disadvantages caring can cause them. Often young carers fall behind in their studies because of the worries they have, being tired and taking time off school to care. Having extra-curricular achievements can help young carers to counter these difficulties. On top of all that, young carers provide each other with friendship and understanding that they often find hard to find at school. Sadly many young carers are bullied and find it hard to talk about their caring role with those around them.
We will use the money to run activities that young carers will gain national accredited recognition for. This new project is linking our respite breaks to help young carers gain extra benefits from taking a break.
