To enable young women to understand that look are not everything, character is wht really counts. The "You "are Beautiful project" is a campaign led by SheInspires Magazine. We believe there is a major issue with the way many young girls perceive themselves today and it needs to change.
Our last research showed that over a young girl in five thinks she is not pretty and that one in three has self- confidence issues based on body perceptions. " I am fat" I don't like my belly, " I hate my thights" are recurrent heart-breaking comment about themselves and it needs to stop.
The Project aims at helping young girls build their self confidence and change beauty perception to more realistic standards than projected by today's media. Young girls shouldn't idealize one particular body image, they should embrace this powerful feeling that is self acceptance. We want to enable our young girls to understand that looks are not everything, it is who you are that counts the most.
We interviewed over 360 young girls between the ages of 7 and 16 and this is what they said about themselves.
