Yor-Kon stands for York - Your Comic Con. This is because we try to offer as much fun and free stuff to do as possible to make it all about fun for you.
Yor-Kon is a family friendly comic book convention celebrating everything geek. We have super heroes, famous cars film props, artists and traders selling all sorts of different things.
Yor-Kon started in 2017 in a small working mens club. On July first we tried to double our efforts and make Yor-kon bigger and better.
We rented a huge marquee on Parliament Street. It was hugely popular and he had massive footfall and the event broke even. The great weather didn't work well with the marquee though and, although we tried really hard, we don't feel like it had enough going on for the customer.
We are running a smaller event in November at New Earswick Folk hall York,UK. This will mainly be used to find presents for Christmas and promote summer 2019; with a few extras to keep it fun and entertaining.
For Summer 2019 we want to keep Yor-Kon on parliament Street but this time we want to extend it! For this we need your help!!
This year we have chosen Saturday July 6th, as, on a Sunday we cannot play music in the morning due to Church services.
This year we are making Yor-Kon free for all as a huge street festival. we hope this will make it accessible as a family day out for all.
We would like to rent separate marquees for each trader, artist and prop that needs one.
Trader prices would incorporate this cost but props and charities would be at the cost of Yor-Kon.
We like to incorporate heroes that raise money for charities, rather than gain; such as Sentinal Squad who cosplay Star Wars Characters for Children's charities. We would like to be able to get a few more heroes in to help the charities whilst entertaining the families.
We also hope to have lower stall costs for artists to help them get noticed.
We hope to have bouncy castles, rides, ice cream trucks, face painters, balloon modellers, street performers, local bands and loads more.
The initial outlay is going to be way way more due to the extra street space and hire of marquees but we feel that it will become a huge staple in York that will drive in the crowds to the centre and help York City Centre in the long run.
In Summer 2018 quite a few businesses came to tell us that they'd had never been so busy on a Sunday before.
We expect we can raise half of what is needed but unless we raise the rest then there is a chance we will have to scale down our plans and potentially only have half the charity organisations in order to save costs.
We offer some great incentives to say thank you for supporting us.
We really hope people will get behind the event to help make a Summer Family event that York can be proud of!!
