I want to go to India to become a yoga teacher

by Tanyia Hughes in Puddletown, England, United Kingdom

I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years. I most recently worked with the NHS in the Children and adolescent department (CAMHS). I became so disheartened with the short-sightedness of the service... it is just not working for a lot of people. I want to help people to heal the trauma, heal their bodies and minds. I was involved in a near fatal road traffic accident almost 20 years ago. I was told I may never walk unaided again. I took up yoga and although I can't go for a good run... I can do everything else! Yoga totally healed me, inside and out. I want to use my therapeutic skills as well as yoga to heal others, hopefully one day be able to offer my service to the NHS and/or become a registered charity. I would like to offer not just private one to one sessions for those with chronic conditions, but run after school clubs for children, public sessions in community centres/church halls or on the local beach! Yoga is a great antidote to everyday life. The money I raise will allow me to go to Rishikesh in northern India. It's known as the yoga capital of the World. Here I will be totally immersed in the tradition for four weeks and will bring back what I have learnt to the community.
