Who we are and what we do

I am Keeley the director of Yoga4all. Yoga4all aim is to make yoga and its benefits available to all regardless of age or ability.

We offer yoga classes to teach self care techniques and manage physical and mental health.  We work with people with physical and learning disabilities, health conditions, seniors, dementia, children and teens.  

The Programme

The Yoga4health programme is a social prescribing programme that is geared towards people suffering with stress, anxiety, depression, at risk of a lifestyle disease or feeling socially isolated. It involves10 x  weekly classes  and teaches self management techniques.

The money will help to deliver the programme to the patients that are referred to us via GP surgeries and mental health teams.

Results

Data is collected at the beginning and the end of each programme and results recorded.  The last programme showed the following improvements :

Mental Wellbeing  17%, 

Social Network 21%

Physical discomfort 17%

Ability to relax 57%

Resilience to cope with life 38%

Physical Activity 29%

Flexibility 27%

Strength 26%

‘How the Yoga is Helping me’

Having suffered a major stroke eight years ago and then a subsequent stroke four years later, l was unsure if l would be able to follow the instructions and moves in the yoga practice. The way the course has been formulated l felt happy that l could follow it. That in itself has given me a bit of my confidence back. The instruction that Keeley gives is so clear and precise and seeing her on the screen doing the moves it makes it easier to follow. The manual is very informative and by reading and looking at that l can be sure l am doing my practice properly although it is much easier to follow the instructions from the screen. I have several health conditions l have AF which l am currently not taking any medication for because l carry EpiPen’s for my allergies l can't take beta blockers. Incredibly l have been practicing my oceanic breathing religiously and have found it very beneficial at stopping the heart from racing, and lowering my blood pressure. I am so pleased l have oceanic breathing as a tool l can use and practice daily to try and help myself. 

I have a very weak core and l use my eyes to balance myself. I am practicing the moves for helping me with my balance and l can see small improvements and l feel that my core is engaging. l don't sleep but the night of our yoga class l always have a more restful night. Yoga is helping my stress levels at this time and l find myself looking forward to the class. I would love to continue with the class as l feel more sessions would help grow my confidence in being able to do my yoga alone at home and hopefully progress from the chair.
