We've now extended this project, to give people a little more time to take part
For just over a year now, YEA have been establishing a presence on the high street, with our premises at 31C Titchfield Street, Kilmarnock, KA1 1QW. In that time, we have recruited new members and supporters, including volunteers to staff the shop. We have also supported events organized by other pro-independence groups, such as the very successful series of All Under One Banner marches and rallies – we promoted these events through the shop and sold flags and other merchandise to participants too. Members of the public come in to ask questions, discuss the issues, and learn new information; we also often help them to direct queries to the appropriate elected representatives locally.
The shop has also been the venue for a number of meetings, where we discussed subjects of interest such as Reframing. Independence Live had their first out-of-studio transmission of The Big Night In at the end of May, and we have provided meeting space for regional independence groupings and other friendly organizations. A new programme of evening events has already started.
All of this was only possible, of course, due to the generosity of donors to our 2017 crowd-funder, for which we are very grateful. The Scottish Independence Foundation is helping us with some capital expenditure, but it is not their remit to fund on-going costs. To continue our activities and expand them into the wider community, as we would like to do and believe would be valuable, needs further assistance from you. If you believe that what we are doing furthers the cause of Scottish independence, please help us to carry on. This year we have included donor rewards too!
