Hello, my name is Evie Potts-Jones, and I am writing to you as The Mayor of Yeovil. I am asking if you or your business can support with a charitable donation to support SSAFA and Mind in Somerset, which are my local chosen charities to support during my term of office.
I have various charitable events planned, such as The Mayor’s Ball, an evening of Rock, Race night, Quiz night and Family Christmas Bingo. Your donation could contribute to raising funds, split equally between my 2 local, chosen charities.
I chose to support Mind in Somerset after being unable to revive a friend who felt that they had the weight of the world on their shoulders - That weight is replaced by a huge hole in someone else's life when you are gone. Mind in Somerset offer a 24hr service and are always there to make sure anyone with mental health problems has somewhere to turn for advice and support. Their core purpose is to provide services and support to anyone affected by mental health - improving their quality of life and wellbeing. During the pandemic, they saw a massive increase in demand for their services. These services rely upon donations to continue to support our local community.
I chose SSAFA as my 2nd charity because I am proud of our area's military links and history. We are blessed to have RNAS Yeovilton (one of the Navy's two principal air bases) on our doorstep. SSAFA the armed forces charity understands the unique demands of service life, whether it's on UK soil or overseas. Support is available for people at any stage in their military career; from the youngest recruit to the oldest veteran - no one's service is ever forgotten. SSAFA have more than 5,000 trained volunteers who provide personalised, face-to-face support to those in need.
