New stretch target

If we raise any funds over our target we will use the money to pay for repairs which will be much needed after London where we will be proudly playing again for you.

XR Manchester's Samba Band was created 2 months ago and is open to anyone who supports Extinction Rebellion, no matter where you live. At the April Rebellion, in London, we witnessed first hand the uplifting and inspiring atmosphere that a Samba Band can create and felt that there was a very real need for us to have one.

We practice every Tuesday from 8pm to 10pm in a fully accessible venue, St Edmunds Church in Whalley Range. The XR Manchester Samba Band was created to inspire rebels at actions but also to give rebels an opportunity to unwind, to release any built up tensions and to form a supportive and close knit community.

We have been fortunate enough to receive a grant from XR Manchester and we have also been loaned some drums from Wigan True Levellers but it isn't fair to continue to do that with the wear and tear involved so we need to fundraise again as we continue to attract more members to the group.

Some of our members have purchased their own drums but we are also very sensitive to the fact that many people cannot afford to do that and an important part of the group is that we continue to have no barriers to entry.

Everybody is welcome at practice. You don't need any experience and drumming helps with so many things. It boosts your confidence. It gives you an opportunity to meet new people and it is fantastic for your mental health.

We know that everyone cannot take part in XR actions or events, for so many reasons, so we wanted to open up this opportunity for people to support XR in a different but essential way.

Thank you so much for your support and you will always be welcome to join us.

* A note on transparency *

All funds raised from this appeal will be directed straight into the XR Manchester Bank Account and then released to the band.

All our drums are purchased from Knock on Wood who are based in Harrogate:
