THE PROJECT: Although lockdown has eased and community centres are re-opening, Chinese elderly people will still live in fear of leaving their homes post COVID-19. Islington Chinese Association has always pride itself by being a welcoming community centre, providing a wide variety of activities and gatherings to promote social harmony and looking after the elderlies. Faced with the Covid-19 crisis, it needs to re-adapt its conventional frontline services, from providing 100% in-person face-to-face contact and activities, to a hybrid model which promotes outreach and connections online. The project aims to enhance our digital reach.
The Aviva crowdfund will be used to upgrade the Association's current technology system, including a new computer and upgrade to an efficient bilingual software specifically designed for Chinese digital design and publishing.
For a lot of older Chinese people who will live in fear caused by COVID-19, being able to receive online support could make profound positive changes to their lives. Reaching this vulnerable group via their native language, can help breakdown feelings of loneliness, isolation and anxiety. Online connections can bring huge benefits including mental resilience and increase social interactions. With easier access to information and resources, we can support our members to stay healthy and safe during this unprecedented time.
