Around the coastal region of South East Essex are located various important WW2 wrecks and forts which played a vital & pivotal role in the defence of the UK against the sea & air threat from Nazi Germany during WW2. Yet, due to their inaccessibility at Sea, these wrecks and forts have been almost forgotten...
The aim of this project, is to raise enough funds to be able to purchase a Category C vessel that can be used to take visitors to go and visit these forgotten icons of our maritime defence heritage. The vessel to be purchased will be the Artic 25 Commuter which offers the reliability and seaworthiness needed for the trips (as it can get quite choppy in the outer reaches of the Thames!). The funds will also be used to berth, crew and fuel the boat.
We also are hoping to be able to offer the trips at night, in order to show a completely different perspective to these amazing sites. You can just imagine the effect of viewing these wrecks and defences under the gaze of a powerful spotlight.
Due to the effects of erosion & weathering, there is no telling how much longer many of these sites are still going to be visible. Yet they each tell their own fascinating story in relation to the vital role each of the sites played in helping to try and ensure the longevity of the Allied campaign in the War.
Each of the sites has its own fascinating story to tell in relation to the vital role that it played not only in the defence of the UK, but also how it played its part in contributing to the numerous campaigns overseas.
Please help to make this project a reality so that we can ensure the vital role of these awe inspiring monuments are not forgotten. We believe strongly that people should still be able to go and visit these spectacular monuments despite their hard-to-reach location in order to help keep alive the memories which accompany the construction and utilisation of these magnificent structures
