My name is Ruby Isserlis. I'm very proud to have been chosen to be one of 27 Scouts representing Bedfordshire at the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. The theme for the Jamboree is "Unlock the World". Scouting has been a part of my life since I was 6 years old and I have learnt many life skills from it: from learning to build fires to making new friends to organising charity events.
The idea of the World Scout Jamboree is to bring young people together and to show that if we have harmony between the young people of our world it will massively help our future international relations. It gives us a chance to break down the walls and barriers set by stereotypes. The Jamboree creates the basis for friendships that will carry on long into the future. The funds I raise will help participants from all over the world attend, so young people from more deprived countries have the same chances as those of us from wealthier parts of the world.
For me personally , the Jamboree is a chance to find out more about the cultures and lives of other young people. As a young leader in the Scout movement I'm really looking forward to then sharing my experiences and stories on my return to the UK with other Scouts. I will be able to teach younger Beavers, Cubs or Scouts the benefits of the Jamboree and the opportunities available to them to unlock their own world.
