The Olympic dream continues ….
I have been selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming ISSF World Shooting Championship in Changwon, South Korea in September. I will be shooting in the 50m Prone Rifle Women Junior competition.
This is a major event only bettered by the Olympic games, although some people in the shooting world would say it is more prestigious as it does not limit numbers of shooters. Roughly 4000 athletes will compete this year from 120 nations compared to 390 shooting athletes who attended the 2016 Rio Olympics.
I have been concentrating on my 50m prone for the last few months whilst also completing my GCSEs and all of the hard work has paid off and I am very pleased that it has been recognised. It does not stop here though and training continues!
The total cost of my entry will be around £2800 (£150 entry fee, £1100 flights including rifle!, £1200 accommodation and the rest for food etc)
Now a little bit about myself. I started shooting in 2011 and actually started shooting pistol! I shot both at my local club and with my Scout group and soon made the transfer over to rifle (much to my Dad’s dismay as he was a pistol shooter). I was invited to join the National Scout Squad in 2013. After less than a year in this squad I was invited to join the Great Britain Junior Rifle Squad. This evolved into the Great Britain Rifle Talent Squad in 2016 of which I am still a member.
The next step up the ladder is to get invited onto the British Shooting Academy Programme.
Here are a few of my achievements gained so far in my shooting career:
British Sporter Champion 2014
British 50m Prone Rifle Womens Junior Champion 2018
Welsh 50m Prone Rifle Womens Junior Champion 2018
Scottish 50m 3P Rifle Womens Junior Champion 2018
Ranked first Women Junior on the British Shooting rankings for 50m prone rifle (Ranked 7th including Senior Women)
Current British record holder for 50m Prone Rifle Women Junior
